In Class Reflection:
I thought our first day was very informative and I can't wait until next week when we are able to make our shirts and then have the class fully begin on our tour day of the prison! I don't know if I have ever been this excited about a class before :)

Reading Reflection:
In reading the assignment material a lot came to mind! I had never really thought about the actual meaning behind what "caring" means...turns out there are way more meanings than I wanted to know lol. However, I tried to organize my thoughts as best as I could when reading the "caring" descriptions. When I first began the reading the handout Rachel gave us in class, I stopped to think about what I thought "caring" was to me as an individual and I came up with a short definition: caring is a compassionate way to reach out to someone, to lend a hand, to stand up for someone who is in need, to help others that you are personally involved with. I thought that was a very good definition and a solid way to explain what I thought caring meant..well that did not last long. When I read the second reading online, way more thoughts rushed in as the author was giving one caring scenario after another.. I began to be completely confused. But I thought when the author ended with the quick summary, she said it best by stating that "in one sense 'caring' refers to an actuality; in another, it refers to a verbal commitment to the possibility of caring" To me, that meant that unless actions are carried out in some fashion or another, one can care, but without solid actions one is just stating that they may care.
Just as an additional comment about the second reading- I thought this statement was extremely interesting: "..in a country that spend billions on on caretaking of various sorts, we hear everywhere the complaint, "Nobody cares." It is so true and so sad to know that this is what people think about this world!
